The Garden Lover’s Tour

Lakewold Gardens is very happy to publish the 2010 Garden Lover's Guide. We hope it introduces you to a few of the many gardens and estates that grace our magnificent Northwest landscape. Long praised for its great outdoors, this area has become a noted garden-lover's destination. The reason is plenty of good soil, a temperate climate that suits a wide variety of plants, and an abundance of gardeners and nurseries. Our only regret is not being able to include them all.

A special thanks goes out to the City of Lakewood and our participating gardens for making this guide possible. Your support also helps to keep these gardens open and preserves this great tradition.

What is a Northwest Garden? Because of our area's unique environment, you'll get a glimpse of plants and garden styles from around the world. In the short distance between Puget Sound and Portland there are a diverse range of micro-climates that allow gardeners to get creative with few limitations. We've included a mix of acclaimed public gardens, historic estate gardens and some of the area's fine emerging gardens. While we found it near impossible to truly represent the diversity that exists, we think these gardens will give you

a sense of the passion that has created such variety.

We hope we've provided the right balance of visual reference and information. The two things we like to see in garden guides are pictures and descriptions. This meant giving up detailed directions. We do include maps with general locations along with addresses and contact information. Many garden tourists find the best way to plan any garden tour is to pick the gardens you'd like to see, then call or check their website for details and directions.

Have a wonderful time on your garden tour. We look forward to seeing you at Lakewold Gardens.
