Lakewold Gardens offers various events year-round for the members of The
Friends of Lakewold and others who visit. This page will be updated whenever
events are added, so be sure to bookmark it and check back for new event

March

3:45 p.m.
Discovery Walks
On the third Wednesday of each month Katie Burki, Garden Manager will guide you
through seasonal changes in the garden. Katie will discuss new additions and
plans for the future. Feel free to join any or all of these walks.
April
12th 9:00
a.m. – Noon
Volunteer Work Party
Help bring life to the garden after it wakes from a long winter’s nap. See
what’s peeking out from beneath the ground’s surface. We will be doing light
weeding and general clean-up in preparation for spring season. Lunch is
provided, following the work party. For more information, call Amanda Wood at

p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Docent/Public Education
Become a fern enthusiast. Learn about the many different varieties, shapes, and
forms. Lakewold’s Fern Garden is the perfect space for this program. More
information to follow.
June
6th – 8th
Pt. Defiance Flower & Garden Show
Receive free admission to the show by signing up for a three-hour
shift at Lakewold’s booth. This is a great opportunity to share your experience of
Lakewold to the public, while helping to increase awareness and encourage visits

June
11th, July 9th, July 23rd, August 13th
Lakewold Summer Nights
Add a touch of serenity to your day. Stop by Lakewold on your way home from
work, with a picnic in hand or that book you’ve wanted to read. You will witness
the gardens through a new light of beauty and elegance. Gate will be open until
8:00 p.m. for your evening visit and shopping at The Garden Shop.

Second City Chamber
Concert Series
Led by Artistic Director Svend Ronning,
Second City Chamber Series concerts often combine well-known
works of the classical masters with the lesser-known works of modern composers.
This deliberate, artistic combination of the old and the new creates a unique
and stimulating musical experience. For more information,

Volunteer Work Party
Bring your pinchers with you to help “deadhead” the rhododendrons, or if you
prefer, bring your favorite pair of clippers. Be sure not to miss this annual
classic. There are always stories to hear from longtime volunteers, with shared
laughter and joy. Lunch is provided following the work party. For more

Docent/Public Education
Rose and Cutting
Garden. David Baird,
owner of Fairie Gardens, a specialty nursery and design service, will come and
talk about modern and historical English gardens, and follow up with an
educational tour of the cutting garden at Lakewold Gardens.
September

a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Help to educate our next generation of gardeners while assisting with
activities. See the beauty of nature through a child’s eye. This event offers
garden and nature-related crafts and is a fun-filled day for children and adults
alike.

Volunteer Work Party
Support Lakewold by preparing the garden for winter. This is the time of year to
pull the annuals so the garden can hibernate. Lunch is provided following the

10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Beautiful Tables Showcase
This 10th annual event has become one of Lakewold’s signature events
with almost
500 in attendance in 2007. The tables are created by
novice and professional
designers. If you would like to participate by
becoming a table designer please

ext. 109.
November 13-16, 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
The Rhythms of Stone Sculpting Class
Award-winning sculptor, DJ Garrity, will explore the expressive possibilities of
working in stone in a four session class. The course blends stone carving
technique and the art of three-dimensional portraiture in a process that offers
a unique garden sculpture with the creative imprint of the individual student.
No experience is required and the workshop is appropriate for the novice or
students with previous experience. One hour break for lunch. $455 members, $485
