Educational Garden Experience

Lakewold has added Youth Tours to its slate of touring options, offering custom tours for children and their leaders who are looking for an opportunity to learn more about our historic garden estate and the variety of plants featured throughout the gardens. Whether focusing on our 100-year history and the families who called Lakewold home, or spotlighting the magnificent Rhododendrons, maples and other rare plants we are known for, we can design a tour that will delight and enlighten your group, and ensure a unique experience for all.

We can accommodate school groups on a field trip, home-schoolers who look to connect with their community, Scout troops working on a specific merit badge, or youth organizations that provide a safe haven for children in need. Picnic tables and other seating on the covered veranda are available for groups who wish to brown bag, on a first-come first-serve basis, however the Sunroom may be reserved (see below).

Allow at least an hour for this visit, depending upon age and other circumstances, and up to 90 minutes if appropriate for your group. $3 per child between ages 7 and 12 (6 and under, free), $8 per adult / $56 minimum. Available for booking Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, at 10:00am, 11:30am and 2:30pm. To book a Youth Tour, please click here and complete the Youth Tour Reservation Form.

  • Once your tour is scheduled you will receive a confirmation letter by mail. Included in your packet will be a list of area restaurants and attractions and full details about your tour.

  • Because we have a limited number of docents, priority is given to those groups that have reserved first on popular tour dates.

  • While not entirely handicapped-accessible, Lakewold offers many flat areas that can be traversed. Please be advised that we recommend an assistant accompany those touring guests requiring wheelchair assistance. Lakewold staff is unable to assist/push wheelchairs during a tour.

  • To make the best use of time during your tour day, a single group payment is recommended.

  • Picnics and brown bag lunches are encouraged. Lakewold is unable to reserve the verandah or other picnic areas during tours, however a tour group may reserve tables and chairs in the Sunroom for up to 24 people, at a cost of $50 for 2 hours. Kitchen facilities are not available; boxed lunches can be arranged through Panera Bread by contacting jennifer.sanders@panerabread.com or by phone at 253.432.3711. Please contact Pam Felts 253.584.4106 ext. 105 to arrange your youth tour reservation. This area must be reserved and pre-paid at least one month in advance. Earlier reservations are recommended as this area books well in advance.

  • Lakewold is closed to the public on Tuesdays during peak tour season. Also, due to work and special projects in the garden, we ask that Tuesday tour groups understand that their tour may have limitations not normally experienced on other tour days.

For questions on youth tours, please contact Pam Felts, Youth Program Manager, at 253.584.4106, x105 or pfelts@lakewoldgardens.org.
