In Memoriam: Larry Woodin

The Friends of Lakewold board is saddened by the sudden loss of our dear friend and fellow trustee, Larry Woodin. He died on Jul 22nd after a brief illness. A Seattle architect and well-known expert on saving Frank Lloyd Wright homes, he served on the national Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy board as President and Vice President. As a board member of the Seattle chapter English-Speaking Union, which sponsors Shakespeare competitions, and member of the PNW Rolls-Royce Owner’s Club, he hosted a luncheon for these groups at Lakewold that introduced vintage “proper motor cars” to the Gardens. Larry brought his board expertise and love of preservation, music, and the arts to the Lakewold board in 2015. He served as Vice-President, chair of the governance committee and member of the advancement and property development committees. He sponsored one of our 1st music events in many years. As a leader of our last capital campaign, he was instrumental in raising funds, well over our goal, and championed for accessibility in the gardens and Wagner house. Larry also brought outdoor art to Lakewold. He elevated Lakewold Gardens to a place of nature, music, and the arts that is enjoyed today. Larry’s quick, but quiet, wit will be sorely missed.
In July 2016, Larry celebrated his marriage to longtime partner Andy Mygovych at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Brandes House.
