Planned Giving
Lakewold Gardens Century Society
Your love of Lakewold Gardens can live into the future through a bequest in your will, helping to insure that this treasured historic estate will endure into the future.
Bequests
A Bequest is a provision in your will or trust that names Lakewold Gardens as a beneficiary. Lakewold Gardens may be named for a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate.
Residuary Bequest gives Lakewold Gardens an amount or percentage after other specific bequests have been distributed.
Unrestricted Gifts (General Bequests) are the most useful because they give Lakewold Gardens the ability to direct the funds to the area of greatest need.
Restricted Bequests can be directed to a specific area of activity at Lakewold Gardens such as garden maintenance.
Endowment Bequests are directed to the Endowment Fund of Lakewold Gardens. The Endowment Fund is managed through The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation and supports the activities of Lakewold Gardens through the proceeds earned each year. The bequest amount remains invested.
In addition, gifts of property, marketable securities, life insurance or other items of value may be left to the gardens, subject to review by the Finance Committee and compliance with the Lakewold Gift Acceptance Policy.
Recognition
Members of the Lakewold Gardens’ Century Society will fund the gardens for generations to come. With your permission, your name will be listed in the annual report. Each year you will learn about Lakewold’s dreams for the future at a gathering for Society members, and see how your charitable gifts are making those dreams a reality.
Your bequest to Lakewold Gardens should be planned with your attorney and tax advisor. You can make a bequest as part of a new will, or add it as a codicil to an existing will. It must be signed in the presence of two witnesses who are not your beneficiaries. Below is suggested wording for your General Bequest.
I give to Lakewold Gardens (Tax I.D. #94-3041320) P.O. Box 39780 , Lakewood, WA 98496-3780, or its legal successor (insert the sum of money, percent portion of estate, description of property or “the rest, residue and remainder of my estate”), to be used for its general tax-exempt purposes.
Restricted and Endowment Bequests have specific wording requirements. Please contact Lakewold Gardens at 253.584.4106 for more information.
